NutriAmosperanze Project – containment of the number of nutria of the Muggesan colony

An unexpected and complicated intervention to release a nutria in Muggia during the covid-19 emergency. A beaver, guest of the ENPA facility for some treatments, it was completely rehabilitated and was therefore ready to be reintroduced into its natural environment. The veterinary surgeon took the opportunity to surgically sterilize it, as envisaged by the NutriAmoSperanze project promoted by the MujaVeg Association, Enpa Trieste and the Municipality of Muggia. The project is designed to meet a regional law that provides for the eradication of all nutria from the regional territory. This containment in the rest of the region occurs, Unfortunately, by shooting or by using gas chambers. The release took place in the middle of the quarantine period; the volunteers, in order not to move away from their own municipalities, they passed the nutria on the edge of the municipal areas of Trieste and Muggia, in a particular relay. The sterilization project will resume as soon as the protective measures related to the Covid-19 emergency cease.
